JJ4L Port Townsend Camp — May 2026Jiu Jitsu for a Lifetime | Strength, Skill & Longevity

Join Steve Maxwell in Port Townsend WA  for an immersive week of jiu-jitsu, movement, and anti-aging conditioning, designed to support your lifetime on the mat.
This camp is for practitioners who want to refine fundamentals, protect their bodies from training-related injury, and train with the long view. The atmosphere is relaxed, focused, and supportive, with daily instruction and live rolling.
Many participants return year after year, creating a welcoming and grounded training environment that encourages growth at every stage. I can also share at this time there will be some special guests.

This is a small-group camp with an intentional and individual approach. While training happens in a group setting, Steve assesses each camper individually vis a vis their experience, movement skills and abilities, and their goals to help them refine their game and attain their objectives over time. The focus is not on enforcing a group dynamic but on supporting practical, sustainable growth in your jiu jitsu.Steve is widely respected across the Gracie family and the broader jiu jitsu community, while remaining independent in his teaching and evaluations. Free from affiliations or the usual politics, he teaches, assesses, and promotes with a critical and well-trained eye. For players who have lacked consistent guidance or mentorship—or been outright abandoned by unscrupulous instructors—Steve offers clear assessment and, when appropriate, formal evaluation based on skill, readiness, understanding and competence in Gracie self-defense. This camp reflects that philosophy: focused training, individual attention, and an environment designed to support jiu jitsu for a lifetime. This camp is appropriate for—and welcomes—all levels from utter novice to experienced black belts.

Steve is vast, and can accommodate all comers. In fact, Steve considers this camp the best available introduction to Gracie self-defense and Brazilian jiujitsu, but feel free to contact us if you want to be sure-sure. Concerning live rolling, for the timid or injured, know that all live rolling is supervised; and Steve will pair you with appropriate partners, and for that matter, live rolling is entirely optional.
